Pte. Charles Mackenzie



Private Charles Mackenzie, 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, born 1897 Helmsdale, Kildonan, son of Robert Mackenzie and his wife Elizabeth Ann Virgo of the Bannockburn Inn, Stafford Street, Helmsdale.  Charles, a butcher to trade, joined the army in May 1916 at Golspie. He was killed in action on 19th December 1917 and is buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery, France.  He is commemorated on the Kildonan War Memorial.
