Pte. Hugh McLeod, Pollan, Assynt


9042 Guardsman H. MACLEOD Scots Guards
23rd March 1917 age 22.

Commemorated on Lochinver War Memorial and on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site: Private H. McLeod 9042 3rd Bn Scots Guards who died age 22 on Friday 23rd March 1917. Hugh is buried in a War Grave is in  Lochinver Cemetery.  He was from Pollan, Assynt, and had enlisted on the 6th August 1914 at Glasgow. He was 6' 3/4" tall, with a fair complexion and blue eyes, with light brown hair. He described himself as a 'farm servant'. He joined at Caterham on the 9th August 1914 and was transferred to the 1st Bn Scots Guards on the 15th April 1915. He was then transferred to the 3rd Bn on the 18th February 1916. He served in France between 15th April 1915 until 18th February 1916 when he was taken ill. He died at Royal Herbert Hospital Woolwich (England) with his father William by his bedside.
