Donald Morrison was born 10th November 1887 at Badcall, Eddrachillis, Sutherland, son of Donald Morrison and his wife Johan Fraser. Donald was the second youngest of 13 children. Donald's parents had both died by 1904. Donald and his older brother Hugh joined the Navy while younger brother Adam emigrated to Canada, joined the army in 1915 and was taken to Texas, USA to serve as a mechanic in the fledgling airforce. Donald ended up in New Zealand, where in 1914 he left HMS Cable ship Iris in Auckland. He then joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 1st Bn, Auckland Regiment and returned to Europe in 1915. He died on 16th September 1916. He is commemorated on Scourie War Memorial, in Bull Road Cemetery, Somme, France, and in New Zealand. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission shows Donald as the brother of Adam Morrison, Toronto, Canada.
