Pte. John Munro Mackay

Pte. John Munro Mackay
John was born 19th May 1887 at Aird, Skerray, Tongue,
son of Hugh and Ann Mackay.

John was killed on 9th April 1917 in the Battle of Arras, France.
He was with the South African Scottish regiment.
He is buried at Point de Jour Military Cemetery, Athies.
He is also commemorated on the Skerray War Memorial and on his parents' gravestone in Skerray.

John's brother James Mackay fought in the war with the Australian Imperial Force.
He was injured but did survive until 1925 when he died at Dumbleyung, Western Australia.
His grave there has no headstone.  Following an appeal by a relative, Fiona Mackay, and with much help from the Western Australian Genealogy Society and others Fiona has just heard that an
Official Office of Australia War Graves Bronze Plaque is to be erected.

Thank you to Fiona Mackay for information and above pictures.
